The Only Mortal in Heaven — Episode 1: Dead and Wanted

Episode 1 of The Only Mortal in Heaven opens on the worst night of William Jones's life. After ten years at the same desk, he carries his career home in a cardboard box, hoping for comfort. Instead he opens the bedroom door and finds his girlfriend tangled up with another man. He doesn't shout or make a scene. He simply turns around and walks out into the rain, adding up every mistake and wishing he could wake up as somebody else.

Wishes have a way of coming true at the worst moment. Headlights flare, and everything goes dark. When William comes to, his head is pounding and he is lying in a cold stone hall lined with empty beds. Two women lean over him, close enough to feel: a horned demoness wrapped in black leather and a pale angel with soft white wings. Their eyes never leave him. 'We're your guardians, William.' Heaven, it seems, has been waiting for him.
