The Only Mortal in Heaven — Episode 4: Now the Angel Wants Him Too

Morning arrives with the angel, bringing fresh clothes and a bashful smile. She waits outside while William dresses, then invites him for a walk, on one condition: he stays where she can see him. When he finally asks her name, she answers simply, 'Angel.' Fingers laced together, she guides him up through white marble halls toward the angels' quarter, while two demons whisper behind them about the human.

Below lies the demons' side, and Angel tells him not to dwell on it. Then she lets a secret slip. When he touched her yesterday, mana poured into her, a great deal of it. Mana is what her kind lives on, the way food sustains him. Food. William has heard that word before, and now it carries a delicious, unsettling weight. In Episode 4 she shows him the most sacred place they have, a glowing pool of light, and suddenly William begins to cough.
