The Only Mortal in Heaven — Episode 8: Both at Once

Earth. A life of her own. An end to the endless hunger. Asmodea craved that long before she ever craved William, and she doesn't pretend otherwise. 'So you do want me.' 'You're a nice bonus.' The rite needs both guardians, so the angel and the demoness rest their palms on his chest. Angel speaks the words: by the light she was made from and the fire Asmodea was born in, let his heart remember how to beat.

Light flares beneath their hands, then fades to nothing. Asmodea isn't surprised. Words alone, she says, can't unlock their power. So in Episode 8 she climbs into William's lap and begins slowly peeling away her leather. Angel cries out her name, but the demoness only answers, 'Watch and learn.' Her eyes burn red as she turns to the angel with an invitation that hangs heavy in the quiet ward: 'Join us.'
